New York City used to be a beautiful place but unfortunately, thanks to democrat ‘leadership’ it is now a liberal cesspool and is about to get much worse thanks to a new law that allows criminals to roam the streets freely instead of being in jail after committing violent crimes.
Yes- you heard that right folks.
Check this out- it’s totally insane.
New York City Democrat Mayor Bill de Blasio is handing certain “disadvantaged” violent criminals a get out of jail free card and the police are furious, Carmine Sabia at The Federalist Papers reports.
The progressive mayor and longshot candidate for the Democrat presidential nomination unveiled the plan this week and it is dangerous.
The plan would triple the number of teenagers who are allowed to be let out of jail sans (without) posting bail and it includes those charged with armed robbery and assault.
“First of all, we’ve had so many people languish in jail because they couldn’t afford bail and that was unfair,” the mayor said.
“We’ve had mass incarceration that was harmful to the whole society,” he said, which would make sense if they were arrested for having marijuana, not armed robbery, CBS New York reported.
The mayor said it will create a fairer society and will insure that teens, “are being redeemed, not just locked up.”
To some, it sounds like a man trying to burnish his progressive credentials on the presidential campaign trail. Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch called it, “pandering for votes during his quest for the presidency,” claiming “‘Progress’ like this will doom this city and crash its economy by making our streets dangerous once again.”
And Lynch is not the only one with reservations.
In an op-ed piece, Commissioner James O’Neill called on the Legislature to fix mistakes in a state bail reform law that goes into effect in January to allow judges to demand bail for people, “who represent a danger to others.”
O’Neill argued that the no-bail law, “will make the work of disrupting criminals and deterring crime much more difficult.”
The mayor agreed with O’Neill on that, saying when asked if such an approach would give the appearance of speaking out of both sides of the mouth, “There are so many people who are not a threat who should not be held simply because they cant afford the bail and there are other people who could be a threat.”
The Vera Institute’s Insha Rahman argues that keeping people out of jail unless they are convicted reduces recidivism.
“Keep them in the community, where we know people actually have a higher likelihood of success staying out of trouble than if they’re incarcerated,” Rahman said.
The New York Post adds that a high-ranking NYPD official accused the de Blasio administration of adopting the new policies without thinking about the implications because “they don’t live in the neighborhoods where people are being robbed and assaulted.”
“Without bail, the perps will be thinking: ‘I’m in and I’m out. Nothing’s going to happen. What’s the big deal?,’ ” the official said.
“People who have never been a victim of crime, they really don’t think about the consequences of this.”
De Blasio’s new policies set the stage for the statewide elimination of cash bail for misdemeanors and nonviolent offenses next year.
New guidelines from the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice will also “significantly” expand the number of adults eligible for de Blasio’s no-bail Supervised Release Program, according to a memo sent to top city judges this month and obtained by The Post.
That move is part of a package of criminal justice reforms that Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the mayor’s political rival, pushed as part of the April budget deal.
Just in time for summer!!!
What else can De Blasio do to make NYC into a Sh** hole?
De Blasio wants teen criminals who commit armed robbery freed without bail.
Sure why not?! What can go wrong?
Liberal logic- what a freaking mess.
God Bless.
