Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot slammed looters and rioters who descended upon the downtown area early Monday morning, calling the overnight events “an assault on our city” and telling criminals, “We are coming for you.”
Police said more than 100 people were arrested and at least 13 officers were hurt over the course of the events.
“We are waking up in shock this morning,” Lightfoot said. “These individuals engaged in what can only be described as brazen and extensive criminal looting and destruction.
And to be clear, this had nothing to do with legitimate, protected First Amendment expression.”

The looting and rioting started just after midnight and lasted “nearly five hours.” Get this…
“People darted through broken store windows and doors along Michigan Avenue carrying shopping bags full of merchandise,” the Tribune reports, adding, “Cars dropped off more people as the crowd grew. At least one U-Haul van was seen pulling up.”
CPD Superintendent David Brown said Monday more than 400 officers were deployed to the downtown area after officers were notified of social media posts encouraging people to go to the Loop and loot businesses.
“Criminals took to the streets with the confidence that there would be no consequences for their actions,” Brown said.
As a result, a curfew will take effect Monday night. Access to the downtown area will be restricted from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., city officials said.

Hitting Chicago’s Magnificent Mile is no accident. It is the jewel of Downtown Chicago, one of the most famous shopping districts in the world. If retailers lose faith the police can protect them from criminal marauders and flee the area, it will serve as more than just a symbolic victory for the left-wing terrorists in Antifa and Black Lives Matter.

With everything going on in 2020 with the pandemic, the racial wars from Black Lives Matter is spreading across the United States and for the few that have a legitimate peaceful protest and truly desire a peaceful solution, the rioters and looters that are just thugs out to steal and watch the world burn, have turned the peaceful protests into a true warzone.
