AG BARR SAYS ‘PEACEFUL PROTESTS BEING HIJACKED VIOLENT RADICAL ELEMENTS,’ VOWS CRACKDOWN

U.S. Attorney General William Barr is making it crystal clear that his department will not put up with anarchists and Antifa types spreading violence around the country ‘in the name of’ George Floyd, who died during an arrest in Minneapolis last week.
Barr told a press conference in Washington Saturday that he believes outside agitators and miscreants are responsible for the bulk of violence being committed at otherwise peaceful protests in the wake of Floyd’s death.
He said violence within these protests appears to have been ‘planned, organized, and driven’ by groups of outside radicals and agitators who are exploiting the situation in order to achieve ‘their own separate and violent agenda.’
Barr noted further that out-of-state factions, in many cases, are using Antifa-like tactics to spur additional, unnecessary unrest.
‘Unfortunately, with the rioting that is occurring in many of our cities around the country, the voices of peaceful protest are being hijacked by violent radical elements,” he said.
Floyd died after being pinned down to the street for several minutes following an arrest for forgery by fired Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who held him down with a knee. Chauvin faces third-degree murder charges, among others.
Barr said it is apparent that anarchist-minded groups are using his death to cause additional destruction.
The AG said he understood that people are angry, but added that justice is in the process of being delivered.
“That system is working and moving at exceptional speed. Already initial charges have been filed. That process continues to move forward. Justice will be served,’ Barr said.
He stressed that the Justice Department stood ready to assist city and state leaders with whatever resources they needed because we ‘must have law and order.”
However, he also warned that ‘it is a federal crime to cross state lines or to use interstate facilities to incite or participate in violent rioting.’
‘We will enforce these laws,’ he said.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump warned on Saturday that individuals who are ‘crossing state lines to incite violence’ could be committing a federal crime.
‘80% of the RIOTERS in Minneapolis last night were from OUT OF STATE. They are harming businesses (especially African American small businesses), homes, and the community of good, hardworking Minneapolis residents who want peace, equality, and to provide for their families,’ Trump wrote on Twitter.

‘Liberal Governors and Mayors must get MUCH tougher or the Federal Government will step in and do what has to be done, and that includes using the unlimited power of our Military and many arrests,’ he added.
